# Comments on a flip

Comments let you discuss the content of a flip without changing it: leave a question or a note in the right place, and your teammates will reply in the same discussion. You can put a comment on an empty spot of the flip, attach it to an element or to a selected area

## How to add a comment

1. In the top right corner of the flip, click the “Comments” button and select “Comment” — or press C

   ![The “Comments” button menu with the “Comment” and “Annotation” tools](/images/kb/comments/1.png)

2. Choose a place for the comment:

   * Click an empty spot on the flip — the comment will stay at that point
   * Click an element — the comment will be attached to the element and move with it
   * Hold the mouse button and drag — the comment will refer to the selected area

3. In the “Add a comment” field, type your text and press Enter or click the send button. To start a new line, press Shift + Enter

A comment pin with the author's avatar will appear on the flip. Hover over it to see the first message, or click it to open the whole discussion

You can also add a comment from the context menu: right-click an element or an empty spot on the flip and select “Add comment”

You can drag the pin to another place. If you delete an element that a comment is attached to, the pin will stay on the flip

## How to reply in a discussion

Click a comment pin, type your reply in the “Add a comment” field and press Enter. The “Previous comment” and “Next comment” arrows switch between discussions without closing the window

In a message, you can:

* Format the text: bold, italic, underlined, strikethrough, link
* Insert an emoji — the “Emoji” button
* Mention a space member — type @ or click “Mention a member” and pick a person from the list
* Attach an image — the “Attach file” button. You can also drag an image into the form or paste it from the clipboard
* Add a reaction — hover over a message and click “Add reaction”. Clicking an existing reaction adds or removes yours

::: warning Plan limits
Mentions are not available on the Individual plan
:::

## Limits for attachments and reactions

* You can attach up to 5 images or GIFs to one message
* Formats: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WEBP
* File size — no more than 20 MB
* The first message of a discussion must contain text; in replies, you can send an image without text
* You can add up to 8 different reactions to one message

## How to edit or delete a comment

Hover over your message, click the three-dot icon — the “More” tooltip appears when you hover over it — and select “Edit” or “Delete”. An edited message gets a mark showing when it was changed

The first message of a discussion can't be deleted on its own — you can only delete the whole discussion:

1. Open the discussion and click the three-dot icon at the top of the window
2. Select “Delete thread”
3. In the “Delete comment” window, click “Delete”

::: warning Important
Attached files, links and all replies are deleted together with the discussion. A deleted discussion can't be restored
:::

Other people's messages and discussions can be deleted by the flip owner, the space owner and space admins

## How to resolve a discussion

Once the question is settled, open the discussion and click the icon with a check mark in a circle — the “Resolve” tooltip appears when you hover over it. The pin will disappear from the flip, and the “Comment resolved” notification will show a “Reopen” button

To get back to resolved discussions, turn on “Show resolved” in the filter of the “Comments” panel, open the discussion and click the check mark icon again — its tooltip will read “Reopen”. A new reply in a resolved discussion reopens it automatically

## The “Comments” panel

The panel with the list of all discussions opens together with the “Comment” tool. Clicking a discussion in the list takes you to its pin on the flip

![The “Comments” panel with the filter open](/images/kb/comments/4.png)

* “Search” — searches by message text, author name and the name of the element the comment is attached to
* “Filter” — “Sort by date”, “Sort by unread”, “Show resolved”, “Show with my mentions”, “Show only mine”
* The three-dot icon in the panel header — “Hide comments” or “Show comments” and “Mark all as read”
* The three-dot icon next to a discussion — “Mark as unread”, “Pin to list”, “Copy link”, “Delete thread”

You can hide and show comment pins again with Shift + C. Pinned discussions are at the top of the list — only you see your pinning. The copied link opens the flip right at the discussion

New messages are marked on the pin and on the “Comments” button until you open the discussion

## Who can comment

What you can do depends on the access level to the flip — see the article about [access to a flip](/en/sharing-and-access) for details:

* “Editing” and “Commenting” — you can create comments, reply, and edit and delete your own messages
* “View” — you can only read comments, attachments and reactions. The “Comments” button opens the panel with the list of discussions

Participants who are not logged in are shown in comments as “Guest”. They can resolve and reopen only their own discussions, and reactions, mentions and pinning to the list are not available to them

## Drafts

If you close the form on a smartphone without sending the text, flip will save it and show the “Draft saved” notification — the text will be back the next time you open the form. On a computer, a form with unsent text doesn't close on the first attempt: repeat the action to close it without saving
