Why AI on the board changes teamwork
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants directly control external tools: editors, databases, services and online whiteboards. Instead of generating text for you to copy over by hand, the AI performs actions in the interface on its own.
The standard was developed by Anthropic and is supported by leading AI assistants, including Claude. With MCP, AI stops being just a source of information and starts taking a direct part in the work.
flip MCP is an implementation of this standard for the flip online whiteboard. The AI assistant works with the board the same way a person does: it adds elements, builds diagrams, reads the content and edits it right from the chat.
For a team, this means one thing: the routine work of laying out the board disappears. The team focuses on what matters — discussing ideas and making decisions.
The idea is simple: connect an AI assistant to flip through the MCP server, and you can give it commands in the chat. The result appears on the board right away.
Examples of commands the AI carries out on the board:
“Create a mind map about launching a new product” — the AI builds the map right on the board, with branches and connections
“Draw a flowchart of the employee onboarding process” — the AI adds blocks, labels and arrows
“Create a sprint retrospective structure” — the AI sets up columns, sticky notes and prompts
“What's on the board?” — the AI reads all the elements and returns a short summary
“Rephrase this sticky note more clearly” — the AI finds the element and updates the text
No manual copying and no screenshots. The AI sees the board and works in it directly.
flip MCP gives the AI assistant the board's full set of tools. Here's what it can do:
Create elements: sticky notes, text blocks, shapes, images, frames, hyperlinks, code blocks
Build diagrams: mind maps, grids, UML classes, swimlane diagrams, labeled arrows, flowcharts
Add many elements at once: the AI places dozens of sticky notes or blocks with a single command
Read and analyze the board: get a list of all elements, search by text, summarize the content
Edit existing elements: update text, change styles, move, delete
Work with multiple boards: switch between the boards in a space and manage them from a single chat
The AI doesn't just answer questions — it builds, edits and structures visual content right on the board.
AI on the board changes the pace of work. Here are some specific use cases.
Brainstorming and idea generation
Ask the AI to generate 20 ideas on a topic and sort them into categories on the board right away. In a few seconds, the team has something to work with instead of a blank canvas.
Visualizing business processes
Describe a process in a few sentences, and the AI will build a flowchart or a swimlane diagram. Agreeing on processes with the team gets easier: everything is already laid out and easy to see. Changes are made right there, as text in the chat.
Retrospectives and team meetings
The AI creates a ready-made retrospective structure: “Went well”, “Went wrong” and “To improve” columns with prompt sticky notes for each participant. After the meeting, it reads all the notes on the board and compiles a task list.
Planning and roadmaps
From a text description of priorities and deadlines, the AI builds a visual roadmap or a task grid. The team fine-tunes the details itself.
Onboarding new employees
The AI creates a checklist board for a new team member: a plan for the first 30, 60 and 90 days, a company structure chart, key contacts and links to resources. They open the board and immediately see where to start.
Analyzing and auditing board content
If a board has piled up a lot of elements, ask the AI to read everything and tell you what can be deleted, what can be merged and what should be moved to a separate board.
Connecting takes a few minutes and requires no technical knowledge. flip MCP works with any AI assistant that supports the MCP standard, including Claude by Anthropic.
Go to the
Install an MCP-compatible client (for example, Claude Desktop)
Add the flip MCP server to the client settings — the configuration file is provided in the guide
Open any board in flip and start giving the AI commands in the chat
A flip account and an installed MCP client are all you need. No extra integrations or API keys.
Online whiteboards have already changed how teams work together. AI on the board is the next step: you used to work in the tool, and now the tool works with you.
Arranging elements, building diagrams, setting up templates — all of this takes time that is better spent on discussion. flip MCP takes this work off your hands.
AI doesn't replace people; it removes the barrier between an idea and its visualization. When a single chat request is all that separates a thought from a finished diagram on the board, the team starts thinking faster.
Try flip and connect flip MCP. The AI assistant is ready to work on your board.
