How to create and delete a space

Updated October 9, 2026

A space is the shared workplace in flip: it holds teams, flips and members, and a plan is connected to it. This article explains how your first space appears, when you can create another one and how the owner deletes a space

How to create your first space

You create your first space when you sign up: at the last step, you enter its name. Learn more in How to sign up for flip

You become the owner of the new space. It starts on the Mini plan and has one team

If you aren't a member of any space — for example, you deleted your only one — the same space creation step opens after you log in to flip

How to create another space

The list of spaces has no button for creating a new one. You can add a space in two cases:

  • On the Business plan, when the space already has 30 teams. If you then click the plus button with the “Create team” tooltip in the header of the “Teams” block in the left sidebar, the “You've reached the team limit for this space” window opens with the “Add space” button
  • If the plan is connected to the space for a lifetime — in the “Space profile” section, the “Plan term” row says “Lifetime”. Then the profile has a card with the “Create a new space” button: a new plan can only be chosen for a new space

To create a space:

  1. Click “Add space” or “Create a new space”
  2. In the “New space” window, enter a name — up to 64 characters
  3. Click “Create”

The “Space created successfully” message appears, and the new space opens. You become its owner, the new space is on the Mini plan and has one team. Members, flips and the plan of the original space aren't carried over. Invite your colleagues and connect the plan you need — see How to invite users to a space and How to buy or upgrade a plan

You can switch between spaces in their list in the left sidebar — see Viewing and editing a space

How to delete a space

Only the owner can delete a space — in the “Space members” section, the owner is marked with a crown. Admins and members don't have the delete button. Learn more about roles in Space member roles

Important

All teams and flips of the space are permanently deleted together with it. Deletion can't be undone

  1. In the left sidebar, click “Space settings” next to the space name. If you have several spaces, open the list of spaces and click the settings icon in the row of the current space
  2. In the “Space profile” section, scroll down and click “Delete space”
  3. In the “Delete the space?” window, check how many teams and flips will be deleted — their number is given in the window text
  4. Enter the space name in the “Space name” field exactly as it's written, with the same uppercase and lowercase letters
  5. Click “Delete the space”

The “Delete the space?” window with the number of teams and flips and a field for the space name

If the name is entered with a mistake, the “Names do not match” hint appears under the field. To close the window without deleting, click “Cancel”

After the deletion, another of your spaces opens. If you have no other spaces, flip offers to create a new one — the same way as when you sign up

What happens when you delete a space

  • All teams and flips of the space are deleted. They can't be restored
  • The space disappears for all members, along with access to its flips
  • If a paid plan is connected to the space, the subscription's auto-renewal is turned off, and there will be no next charge for this space. How auto-renewal works is described in How subscription payments are charged

Tip

To keep the flips you need, download their backups before deleting the space — you can import them into another space later. Learn more in Flip backup: download and import

Limitations

  • One user can own no more than three spaces, including the one created at sign-up. Spaces you were invited to don't count. If the limit is reached, the “You've reached the limit” message appears when you create a space
  • If the plan is connected to the space for a lifetime, the profile has no “Delete space” button
  • On a phone screen, there is no “Space settings” button, so you can delete a space only from a computer or tablet
  • In the self-hosted version of flip (On-Premise), there are no buttons for creating and deleting spaces
